A note on the scores times: Score times are given as an overall score. Overall times were formulated by taking the overall time a team took to physically complete the course, then adding any time penalties they were assessed at various skills stations scattered along the course. So for instance, if a team finished the course in 6 hours, but were assesses time penalties at the various stations of 45 minutes, the team’s overall time would be 6:45:00.
Story taken from http://cadetcommand.armylive.dodlive.mil/2010/04/13/sandhurst-top-rotc/After 10 weeks of training 5 days a week, the University of Louisville Cardinal Battalion Ranger Challenge team successfully defended their title at the 7th BDE Ranger Challenge Competition at Ft. Knox last Saturday. A total of 48 schools competed, arriving to Fort Knox from MI, IN, KY, TN, and OH. The Ranger Challenge team came in first for the second year in a row, outperforming big names like Ohio State, Notre Dame, and the University of Tennessee. The Cardinal Battalion also fielded an all-female Ranger Challenge team for the first time, and the "Pink Lady Rangers" came in third in the woman's division.
The grueling, 22 hour competition began at 4:15 am on Saturday morning and concluded at 2:00 am on Sunday morning. Cadets competed in nine events throughout the day, beginning with the Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT). The men's team had an average APFT score of 313, coming in third place in this category, and the women's team came in 4th in their division with an average score of 286. Other events included Basic Rifle Marksmanship (BRM), weapons assembly and disassembly, the Hand Grenade Assault Course, one-rope bridge, Orienteering (Land Navigation) an obstacle course, terrain feature identification, and a 10k ruck march. The Ranger Challenge team particularly excelled in the one-rope bridge, with the men's team coming in first place with a far-side time of 2:11, and the women's team coming in second in their division with 5:30 (a time that beat over half of the male teams). The men's team also won second place in weapons assembly and disassembly, and came in third on the obstacle course. In the women's division, the Pink Lady Rangers won first place on the obstacle course, and second in orienteering. The last event in the competition was the 10k (6.2 miles) ruck march with a 35 lb rucksack, LBE, ACH, and weapons, which equated to a full-on race.
